Fandom Annoys Me Day
Today? Is my personal Fandom Annoys Me Day.

Seriously. Okay, so there's wank going on in the Harry Potter fandom, which I stay as far away from as possible, but of course I see people from my flist get worked up/hurt over this wank, which means I do, too.

There's wank going on in the Supernatural fandom, which I stay as far away from as possible, but almost everyone I have friended has posted on the matter, as well. Which means I get worked up over this, too.

I admit to not having a thick skin when it comes to matters such as these, so I ask: why do people have to see these things as matters of black and white? Why not see it as matters of grey - why not say, "I don't like what you like. I do not have to take a look at it. I do not have to like you because of it. It does not mean that you as a person are disgusting, it just means I find this particular kink of yours disgusting." Why do people have to be so absolute in their stances? Why do they not allow for acceptance, why do they not try to see where others are coming from? Why don't they think twice or three times before they hit the reply button in anger/haste/whatever???

I don't believe in the mob's ability to change, so this is, naturally, not going to change anything; I just needed to say this, or else I know I'll get even more worked up about it. I will continue to stay clear of those discussions because I have rarely seen a constructive outcome - probably because the wankers/flamers are such a loud group, but there you are.

What? I'm pessimist, you say? Naaah. Don't know where you're coming from.

	I know. I keep refreshing LJ/IJ to see if there's new shiny fic to distract me from RL work, and all I keep seeing is those two "discussions." Both of which I have strong feelings about, and neither of which I want to wade into right now. :( (Reply to this) (Thread)

I do have strong opinions about those two matters as well - but I know that a) I should not wade into those discussions for fear of being so upset my state of mind, stable right now, thank God, becomes instable again; last year, the harry_holidays wank and the Snarry Games wank caused me pretty much to crash, taking away my safe place bla bla bla - I was gone from LJ land for almost a third of that year (and then the DD wank and I was almost gone again, but then LJ fucked up, heh. In a way, good timing!); b) whatever I said might cause more discussion, and I know I'm pretty bad at holding my own in discussion because I always try to see every side and cannot deal with anything that might even remotely be construed as an attack on my own beliefs and opinions. RL weak spots ahoy! *eyeroll at self*

Whoa, sorry, that got long and probably went into TMI areas.

I think my message right now would be: shut the fuck up, fandom, if you cannot state opinions without insulting anyone who does not see things the way you see them, and go write MOAR FIC. *nods*

	Honestly, if people used the same energy on writing fic, IJ/LJ would be a better place. I hate wank. It's for small people. I think my flist is not too bad, none of my friends are really wanking over neither one or the other, although some express sadness over it, which is understandable. Mine isn't either, at least the HP part of it, and I'm not so immersed in the Supernatural part that I can't scroll by those posts, as I don't really feel protective about most of those people. But you do get curious and open one of a million posts, and voilà, I'm getting upset. I'm just glad I know better about reading that stuff now; I used to meticulously follow discussion and wank.

Sad thing is that SPN/CW RPS fandom is gearing up for Big Bang, which is causing some kind of non-happening right now. I can look forward to June and July and August, but in May... kind of nothing is happening. And HP... I read too much Snarry Games and am now suffering from the backlash of having read too much in too little time. I'm taking a break from that (except for what really calls out to me), writing like mad instead... :)

	Today, I discovered that if I do four episodes a week, I can rewatch all 60 or so episodes of SPN before the new season. This is my happy thought. I'm planning on roping my f'list in by doing picspams each week from the episodes I'm watching. I am back to wading in the shallow end of fandom and do hope you're not feeling too wretched about all the wank. ♥ (Reply to this) (Thread)

AHAHA LMAO that is a good plan! I'd come up to Hunted before Ghostfacers aired, and of course that's where I took up after the season finale had aired - I'm now up to Jus in Bello and unable to continue. DO NOT WANT! Luckily I have your recent post-finale ficlet on mind and my own coda that's in beta - but, I suppose the emotional draw from the SPN finale may play a role in my reaction here.

I'm pessimistic in general. I've given up on people because of all of the above and more. There's no aspect of my life that isn't touched by other people's wanking and ranting and carrying on. The lack of respect and civil discourse makes me both depressed and ill. It's just unbelievable. The old 'agreeing to disagree' and letting go is apparently dead and buried. It's all mob rules and bullying and self-righteous b.s. It's very very sad.

I'm just moving in smaller and smaller circles because I really don't have the time, energy or interest to fight with people over things. In a way, it's good to know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Why can't we all just get along? :-/

I'm on the verge to that place where people in general can go fuck themselves, but since I'm working a social job wherein difficult kids drive me up walls on a daily basis, I can't just give in to that yet - but, as for people I trust? No, you're not the only one. I'm just never really loud about it because... Huh. Just 'cause. The world is a sad place if I feel the need to quote Sam Winchester.... It's all just so often disappointing, to see people interact with one another without seemingly showing respect. RL I see as different from teh Intarwebz, mostly because discussing things face-to-face brings you in a different situation a) as to whom is discussing and b) as to how the topic at hand is being discussed, and maybe people should remember that, too: THING FUCKING TWICE. You only can express yourself through words, here, and often meaning comes down to expression/gestures/voice modulation etc.

I honestly am wondering what's in the air or in the water because people just seem to be getting crazy lately. It's not just one fandom or another or even just Fandom. It's like...everywhere, but particularly on the 'Net. It is better in RL although even that's been prickly lately -- I have friends I can't talk to about things anymore because I'm not supporting the same candidate for President as they are and it's really really painful. I've never seen anything like it.

People don't think and they just don't care. It's like 'you're with us or you're against us' on every little thing lately -- what the hell is wrong with diversity and difference of opinion as long as you're respectful to one another. Why is it so hard?

It just makes me sad because there are less and less things that are fun that I can share with people for fear of offending someone or setting them off in some way. I just wish people would calm down and chill out. At least I know I'm not the only one feeling it!

	I'm so completely clueless I don't even know what wanking you are talking about... LOL I so hate "the wank" I mean... how is "place fandom issue here" going to change anything in your's or anyone else's life??? I keep out of the arguments... I tend to be sarcastic and then that is taken seriously and then I am flamed LOL so now I have NO OPINION :D (Reply to this)
